Which surface area should you order?

Surface area is chosen by the nephrologist based on patient body weight and clearance targets.

1.8 m²
Smaller adults

Suitable for lower body-weight adults and patients where moderate clearance is clinically appropriate. Common in outpatient maintenance dialysis.

2.0 m²
Most common · Medium adults

The most frequently ordered size. Balanced surface area for routine chronic hemodialysis across medium body-weight adult patients.

2.1 m²
Larger adults · High clearance

Used for larger body-weight patients or where higher clearance of middle-molecular toxins is clinically indicated.

Procurement FAQ

Which surface area should I choose — 1.8, 2.0 or 2.1 m²?

Surface area determines the total membrane available for solute clearance. 1.8 m² suits smaller adults. 2.0 m² is the most common choice for medium body-weight adults. 2.1 m² is used for larger body-weight patients or when higher clearance is clinically indicated. Follow your nephrologist's prescription for the specific surface area per patient.

What is the difference between high flux and low flux dialyzers?

High flux dialyzers have larger membrane pores, allowing clearance of middle-molecular weight toxins like beta-2-microglobulin. Low flux dialyzers only clear smaller solutes. High flux is generally preferred for chronic hemodialysis patients on long-term treatment.

Are these dialyzers reusable?

These dialyzers are supplied as single-use devices. Some facilities in Kenya reprocess dialyzers for cost reasons, but this requires strict validation and is not recommended by Kibellan Universal Solutions. Follow your facility's reprocessing protocol if applicable.

Do you supply paediatric dialyzers?

Yes — see our Paediatric Dialyzers 1.4 m² page for children's dialysis.
